THE GREAT HISTORY OF ROME

How beautiful is Rome? Maybe just a picture could be usefull to find the answer...

I would like to begin my forum with a question: how beautiful is Rome? A simple photo, that simple is not, will confim us that the Eternal City is a good nickname, confirming you why to be a tour guide here is so beautiful.

We are looking at something about the historical centre of Rome from one of the terraces of the Palatine Hill, when the History began (here Romulus, the first king and founder of Rome, according to the legend founded this city at the April 21, 753 BC). From this point of view you can admire the main monuments and remains of the Roman Forum, the political and business centre of Ancient Rome, especially around the Republican Age. On the left you can see the Curia (that sort of small home with the roof), which was simply the Senate of Rome, where several historical things happened. Or, at the foreground, you can find the big columns of the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina, erected here at the II century a.D. With their massive beauty they are some of the main symbols of the Roman Forum. But if you see better, at the background, you will find something more... first of all a medieval tower, the so called Torre delle Milizie. It was released around the XIII century, and it was one of the fortified towers of Rome during the Middle Ages. From this perspective is impossible to see, but the top of the tower is gone. Why? Due to a strong earthquake that hit Rome at the 1348, an earthquake which provoked the partial destruction of the foundations of the building. The result is that the tower is pending, more or less like the famous one in Pisa...

Moreover, always looking at the Torre delle Milizie, try to see on the right where you will find the Quirinal Palace, that today is the official residence of the Presidents of the Republic of Italy. A building which was erected at the end of the XVI century and that was used by all the most powerful rulers of Rome (Popes, Kings and Presidents). And then, why not, try to see on the left. Partly covered by the green leaves of a tree there is the bright white marble of the National Memorial, which was inaugurated at the beginning of the last century.

Do you want to see how old is Rome? What you should do is to come here, using your eyes. You will see the History.
